Vital Signs
Oxevision's Vital Signs software allows staff to take spot-check pulse rate and breathing rate observations without entering a patient’s room. The patient must be resting or still, so this is particularly helpful for reducing disturbance at night when they are asleep.
This software is regulated as a class IIa medical device in the UK and Europe. Pulse rate readings are as accurate as a pulse oximeter (+/- 3 bpm) and breathing rate readings are accurate to +/- 2 bpm.
Pulse rate
When your heart beats, your skin flushes red. The human eye cannot see these "micro blushes" but Oxevision's Vital Signs can. It counts the micro blushes to calculate a pulse rate. Pulse rate observations can be obtained when the patient is still and their skin is visible to the infrared sensitive camera.
Breathing rate
Oxevision's Vital Signs calculates breathing rate by counting chest movements, just as a staff member would if they were observing the patient with a stopwatch. This still works through thick clothing and bedding and even when the patient is partially obscured, for example, hiding under a desk.
To take a spot-check pulse or breathing rate observation, a member of staff can select any room tile and “Take Vital Signs” from the room action menu. They will be asked to confirm that the patient is still and suitable for observation by viewing a 15-second live image.
IMPORTANT: Oxevision's Vital Signs does not provide warnings or alerts associated with vital signs; they are spot-check measurements only. Please proceed with caution if taking a Vital Signs observation when the room tile is Amber and displaying “In Bathroom” for patient privacy reasons.
During your training, you will be reminded to avoid “off-label” devices such as sleep apnoea machines or fans in rooms with Oxevision as they may give rise to other signals that the software could interpret as pulse or breathing rate. If you are ever unsure, please refer to the appropriate policies and procedures found in the Instructions for Use.

Vital Signs Trends
In addition to spot-check readings, Oxevision's Vital Signs also charts a patient’s breathing rate and pulse rate over the last 24 hour period. The Vital Signs Trends chart shows a summary of average vitals signs to provide additional insight into the patient’s recent state and surface any underlying trends which may be of interest to staff.
Vital Signs Trends can be accessed via the room action menu and exported to your work email address as a PDF if required.
