Lesson 2: How to Take a Patient’s Vitals Signs using Oxevision
In this lesson you'll learn about Oxevision’s vital signs medical device.
- By using Oxevision you can take contact-free, non-invasive, spot-check measurements of medical grade cardio-respiratory vital signs. These measurements are registered as a FDA Class II medical device in the US and a Class IIA medical device in the UK and Europe.
- Oxevision will not alert you to adverse changes in vital signs including abnormally high or low pulse or breathing rates and is not intended to be used to detect the cessation of vital signs. Please refer to the Vital Signs Instructions for Use (IFU) for further information.
- In order to obtain a Vital Signs reading, the patient must be still and the blue blobs which represent where the platform is taking its pulse rate and breathing rate measurements MUST be touching the patient’s body.
- When your heart beats, your skin flushes red. The human eye cannot see these micro blushes but Oxevision’s infrared sensitive camera can. The platform counts these micro blushes to calculate a pulse rate. The platform collects breathing rates by counting the rise and fall of the individual's chest.
- Oxevision cannot verify a patient’s identity. It is your responsibility to ensure vitals are taken from the intended individual. If you cannot identify the individual as the one from whom you wish to take vitals, we advise you to revert to another means of observation.
- Some products or environmental factors (e.g., vibrations, flashes, light) can interfere with Oxevision by creating other signals in the room, which the platform can misinterpret. These can include: lifts, Sleep Apnea devices, phones and tablets, fans, airflow mattresses, sunlight, and curtains. If these devices are present, please be cautious when using Oxevision. For more information, please refer to the Vital Signs Instructions for Use.
- The Oxehealth Vital Signs medical device is designed to measure pulse rate and breathing rate in the following ranges:
In the UK and Europe:
- The specified range for pulse rate is 50 to 130 ± 3 beats per minute.
- The specified range for breathing rate is 8 to 39 ± 2 breaths per minute.
In the US:
- The specified range for pulse rate is 50 to 130 ± 3 beats per minute.
- The specified range for breathing rate is 8 to 31 ± 2 breaths per minute.
Oxevision will not give measurements outside these ranges.
- Oxevision is a supportive tool. You should never rely solely on the platform to ensure patient safety. Usage should be in line with your standard operating procedure.
